Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci was born on the 12th of November, 1961 within Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast and she holds the record for being awarded 10/10 marks at an Olympic event. Bela Karrolyi was the Romanian gymnastics instructor who was later Comaneci's coach, first discovered Comaneci at the age of six. First competing in the junior national championships of Romania in the year 1969, she finished 13th. Then in the year 1970, she was crowned champion. Her first competition in the international arena was in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior competition for communist-bloc nations she took home three gold medals. In 1973 and 1974 she was all-around junior champion. In her very first competition at a senior level Lyudmila Turkishcheva from Russia took home five gold medals as well with one silver. She was the winner of the American Cup in New York City in 1976 becoming the first woman to perform the backward double salto in dismounting from the uneven bars that are parallel. Her path into the entertainment business began during her teens when she began performing as a figure skater alongside her younger twin sister Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show known as Ice Capades. Carol Marie Wayne born 6 September 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol was a professional as an entertainer as a teen. She began her career as figure skater, performing alongside her twin sister Nina Wayne as part of the traveling entertainment shows known as Ice Capades. These shows included the ice skating of which was accompanied by theatrical music.
