Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on 17 April 1972. Her father, William John Garner, worked as a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. In order to continue in the footsteps of her father she graduated in chemical engineering. So that she could fulfil her dream to become an actress, she relocated to New York. She worked as a chef in a New York restaurant as well as appearing in Broadway productions. She was in an appearance on the tv show "Felicity." It was in this show that she first met Scott Foley, her first husband. Garner began her career in Alias, an action thriller. Her debut role was the widely-praised love story 13 Going on 30. She played a teenager trapped inside a 30plus year old's body. Garner picked Gary Winick as the director of her movie. The team continued to look for roles until Winick's passing in 2011. In 2009, Garner became an artist ambassador for Save the Children U.S.A. This includes the advancement of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early education. From 2014 onwards, Garner has been a participant on the board of trustees for this group, promoting early childhood education. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) Ambassador team for the EASS program, Garner visits families regularly to provide them with strategies to encourage their young children to succeed.
